I heart thrift
The weather in Vancouver has been slowly but surely dropping in temperatures. The rain has been dropping too.
Last August we packed 2 bags each and tried to cram the most important bits of our life into those suitcases.
Vancouver is notorious for rain and I’m very happy that I went with my instincts and packed my beloved purple Hunter boots.. But I wish I packed long johns, thermal tops, heatech undies and woolly stockings… I’m also without one of those crazy northface/Columbia level bazillion jackets with lovely and soft fleece lining….. I can’t afford one- all of our money is going into a much beloved husband’s grad school :)
My shopping days are over.
Almost.
I recently discovered thrift stores and consignment shops.
They are beautiful Meccas of clothes people no longer want and in really good condition… I found a beautiful Kenzo cardigan but in L :(
I’m only scouring racks with woolly things, jackets or sweaters because that’s all I need to survive this coming winter…
I’ve picked up:
- 100% wool jumper from the salvation army
- a lambs wool and angora jumper which is from the 80s!
- an acrylic hot pink with pearl beads sweater also from the 80s
- a leather and knit sling bag from a children’s charity store….
All for less than HK$200 and all the money supports local children’s hospitals, relief organisations and giving low income families work…
Pretty awesome.
Although you must toss them into the washing machine the moment you get home cos thrift store cooties are ewwww.
Well.
Winter is coming.
I’m ready :)
(I’ll post some pics of my treasured finds once they are properly dry)
